The area within the bend of the River Boyne is known as ‘Brú na Bóinne’ meaning the “palace” or the “mansion” of the Boyne, where the oldest buildings in the world still stand. Newgrange is one of three mounds in this river bend, the others are Knowth and Dowth, built by our ancient ancestors – skilled observers of the skies who aligned their buildings with the solstices, equinoxes, lunar variations and the stars.
